New to Canada
The North Shore Neighbourhood House celebrates diversity. We work with a number of other organizations to ensure the House is culturally inclusive, welcoming and sensitive. Our front doors are a symbol of our commitment to creating a welcoming community for everyone.
Some of our multicultural projects include:
- Youth Power Trilogy (a set of three training manuals for immigrant and new comer youth) was created over a three year period to provide materials and a curriculum for local youth workers.
- Welcoming Neighbourhoods provides an opportunity to hear directly from newcomer families to explore how local neighbourhoods can be more welcoming and how the integration of new immigrants can be made easier.
- The Cultural Buddy Program matches local pre-teens volunteers with newcomer pre-teens to support integration, make new friends and have fun!
In addition, we successfully completed accreditation in 2006 (Continuous Quality Improvement or CQI) that ensures our policies and procedures are free of bias, that all participants are respected and valued, and that there are mechanisms that allow program participants to freely express their concerns about any program or service.
